THE COURSEClick here for some picture of jumps offerred at the following grades:Newcomers (yellow-orange background), Introductory (white), Preliminary (red), Pre-Novice (pink), 1-star (yellow), 2-star (green) and 3-star (blue). The course was originally designed and built for the Olympic Games, Sydney 2000by Mike Etherington-Smith, International Course Designer .
The course still holds up in all conditions as for the Olympic course which had to be held weather conditions existed on the scheduled days.
The most recent addition has been that of the Newcomers course which was initially provided for training and is now an integral part of introducing riders to the sport. Many of the jumps are portables which enables the designers to change the look and feel of the course for each event by placing them in different situations around the area. Donations from sponsors and from the NSW Institute of Sport ensure that the course if fresh for each start. When designing a course for each level, care is taken to provide jumps suited to each levell. This allows a horse to be nursed from one level to the next with a number of both maximum and "let up" fences. Thus some jumps will be shared between grades but in each instance, these will never be higher than is maximum for that of the lower grade.
